A Roadmap for Growth

“At BetMGM, strong leaders are those that acknowledge we are constantly covering new ground, and no one knows the answer. These leaders challenge the team to come up with the best solution given the information available and guided by our core values.”

Elisa Shen Senior Director, Business Development

As the Director of Account Management, I oversee the relationships we have with key market access partners. These partners are critical to the growth of our company. In many jurisdictions, they hold the licenses that BetMGM needs to offer its iGaming and sports betting products – both online and in-person. As the main point of contact with these partners, my team is responsible for building a strong relationship to promote mutual success and joint revenue growth, ensuring our continued ability to deliver our product to customers in these markets.

Essentially, we focus on effective communication and strong relationship-building skills to advance the business. Externally, this means representing BetMGM’s commercial interests in conversations with partners. Internally, this means having the right conversations with various stakeholders to overcome the inevitable blockers to progress. Both roles require constant communication about the “who, what, when, where, and why” to achieve the best outcome.

Both our industry and the company are relatively new and changing at a rapid pace, and a successful leader at BetMGM is one that is comfortable with uncertainty. In more mature industries, you’re viewed as a strong leader when you can shape the business to a version of success you have seen before. At BetMGM, strong leaders are those that acknowledge we are constantly covering new ground, and no one knows the answer. These leaders challenge the team to come up with the best solution given the information available and guided by our core values.

A team does their best work when they have a firm understanding of how their contributions affect the greater whole, so my time is well spent providing as much context and background for any project or task I ask of my team. Once we set the goal together, my team is empowered to figure out how to achieve it using their own creativity and skills. It’s like planning a road trip. We need to agree on a destination and why it’s a good choice, then pick a time to meet, determine how many pit-stops to make along the way, and decide how many snacks to bring. I come in to help remove roadblocks that come up and provide roadside assistance when something does not go as planned.

Our team is on a mission to ensure that as many people as possible can experience our products by establishing and supporting new market access partners. There are still markets that we have not yet reached, and I’m excited that my team and I will be at the forefront of the opportunities to deliver our product.
